Dia de Iemanjá
Come get a taste of the streets of Bahia and celebrate the powerful force of the ocean. This all-female ensemble is bringing dance, music, and song to honor Dia de Iemanjá (Day of Yemanjá), a popular celebration observed each February throughout Brasil—, and especially in Salvador, Bahia— for one of their most beloved Orixás, also known as the Queen of the Sea (Rainha do Mar). In this one-hour experiential workshop, participants will enjoy a special performance akin to what you might see on the beaches of Salvador on February 2nd, followed by an instructional towhere you will learn a popular dance, song, and rhythm rooted in the Afro-Brazilian tradition of Candomblé.
This public program will take place at Art + Practice’s public program space at 4334 Degnan Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90008.
